Anatolian grasslands: T1, T2, and T2b

Photo from Internet Free Photos.

In the second half of the fifth century AD, the Anglo-Saxon Belgae tribes invaded the South-East of England, bringing their Anglo-Frisian, or North Sea Germanic, Old English language and their culture, and some of them their T2b maternal genes with them. The British Isles today have about 5% of haplogroup T2b.

My maternal ancestors were known to have lived for many generations in Essex in the South-East of England, where the Anglo-Saxon raiders first landed. At that time, ordinary people were not allowed to move around the country. This, I believe, is where my maternal T2b genes came from: one of these Anglo-Saxon invaders, ultimately the first farmers in Anatolia ten thousand years ago.
